Complete Wedding Cake Service from Design to Delivery

Start with an idea, a theme, a sketch, or a photo of a cake you like (yours or ours).  We will schedule a consultation to taste cake and create together the perfect design to complement the theme and ambiance of your wedding.   As the date approaches, we are here to assist with any additional details. Then when your wedding week arrives,  we will create the cake and (optionally) deliver to your reception table.

We can add cake toppers and fresh flowers (from your florist) at delivery as needed. Please arrange this with us ahead of time.

A box for the top tier, and a separate box for leftovers, are left under the cake table at delivery (usually in the kitchen or with the reception planner if the table cloth is not floor length).

Two traditional cake flavors are included at no extra cost, anywhere in the cake.  Extra charges may apply for premium flavors, more than two flavors in the same wedding cake, for extra-tall cake tiers, and for fondant base icing.   All cakes are made from scratch.  No mixes are used in any of our cakes.  Buttercream icing is also handmade here at the bakery.

We are consistently told at bridal shows that our cakes taste the best at the show, and that the white wedding cake is reminescent of old-fashioned bakeries remembered from childhood.  Fondant cakes are ever popular, and our buttercream-iced cakes are so smooth, they are often mistaken for fondant-covered cakes. 

Wedding Cake Pricing

Prices are primarily by serving and begin at $3.50 per serving plus tax, dependent upon design, composition and size.  Example cake configurations and sizes,  with slices counts and starting prices, are listed further down on this page.

A nonrefundable $200 down payment locks in your date, and the remaining balance is due by 2 weeks before the wedding (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AmEx, cash, checks, PayPal, PayPal Me/Vintage Bakery).  Cake quotes are guaranteed for 14 days.

Optionally, an online account can be set up in the "cloud".  Online payments of any amount may be made at your convenience between booking and the due date until the full balance is paid.  

 Delivery fees begin at $49 for Columbia, and depend upon distance from the bakery, Friday delivery during rush hour traffic, logistics such as stairs, grassy yards, elevated stages/platforms, time required to complete designs that must be assembled on-site, and adding decorations that cannot be attached before delivery.  We do  not overcomplicate this or add on charges for every little thing, but these are real delivery considerations for fragile wedding cakes. Typical three-tier and four-tier cakes can usually be delivered fully assembled and ready for placement on the table.

 Cancellations within 60 days of the wedding date are non-refundable.

Cake Stands/Risers/Plateaus

Optional silver or gold cake stands are available for a rental fee plus a refundable deposit. 


So sorry, but we do not offer sugar-free, gluten-free, or dairy-free products at this time.

Cake cutting is usually done by the catering or venue staff.  Please coordinate with your planner.

We do not provide or offer cake knife/server sets as this is a keepsake/decorative item selected and purchased by the bride.

Can I taste cake without a consultation?  Yes. Sample-boxes-to-go may be purchased at $10 prepaid per person/box for pickup only between 9am-11:30am on Saturdays.  Please email us one week ahead at  Consultation time is not included, and is scheduled separately.


Minimum wedding cake information: Vintage Bakery has a minimum wedding cake cost of $343 plus tax, starting with a 3-tier round buttercream wedding cake that serves 98 guests (86 if the top tier is reserved).  The smallest square 3-tier wedding cake serves 122 (106 if the top tier is reserved) at a cost of $427 plus tax.  There is no upper limit, and large wedding cake examples are included in our photo gallery. More example sizes and starting costs are below for wedding cakes in Columbia (taxes and delivery fees not included).

Cupcake towers with tasting, delivery and setup begin at $350 minimum.  If a smaller quantity is needed, or you are designing your own display and/or cupcake stand, a take-out order may be placed for a small cake and any number of cupcakes by the dozen.  See our non-wedding, regular cupcake page.

For smaller, more intimate weddings, a 2-tier cake can be ordered for pickup to save cost. These can be customized and firm quoted from an emailed photo or sketch for convenience. For full wedding cake service with tasting and delivery, the $343 minimum applies regardless of the cake size.

Cake Cutting Chart


It is difficult to cut cakes precisely by the charts because it is a freehand process, but they are good for understanding how to cut the number of slices calculated for each tier.  There are other methods/layouts for cutting, and although most caterers/planners have their own practiced and preferred methods, the slice sizes are approximately equal at approximately  2" deep x 1" wide x height of the cake tier.

Disclaimers, Helpful Information

  • Please assure the cake table is level and sturdy, & table linens and  decor are ready for cake placement at the agreed-upon delivery time. 
  • When using cake pedestals with a single column at the base, be sure ahead of time they can support heavy weight, that the plate is strongly secured to the pedestal, and that the base is wide enough to not tip over when cutting. They are generally not recommended for wedding cakes. Vintage Bakery is not responsible for cakes when a pedestal stand is used.
  • Watch for unattended or active children.  
  • Note that food colors fade quickly in direct sun.
  • Outdoor reception cautions besides rain:  hilly/wobbly/unlevel cake table, strong winds, excessive heat, insects, roaming pets, falling leaves and birds. At certain summer temperatures, even fondant cakes soften and melt. Vintage Bakery is not responsible for cakes affected by any of these.
  • Vintage Bakery is not responsible for cakes or deliveries if the venue is not open at the agreed-upon delivery time, or if the cake table is not ready for placement of the cake.  We will proceed to our next deliveries, and attempt re-delivery as soon as another break in the delivery schedule occurs.
  • Limit of liability due to accidents, error or other unforeseen happenings is the cost of the cake. 
  • In the case of emergencies, traffic delays/blockages, icy or inaccessible roads/bridges, severe weather events, terrorism, blocked or lack of parking, locked or narrow doors/stairs/elevators, unavailable entrances or elevators, or other unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances en route to or at the venue that prevent delivery of the cake, Vintage Bakery is not responsible.  Inexpensive wedding insurance is available from companies such as WedSafe that reimburse the cost of certain kinds of event emergencies, cancellations or postponements.
  • Vintage Bakery is not responsible for cakes after delivery.

We will verify availability of your wedding date and lock it in for you upon receipt of this $200 down payment.  This amount will fully apply to the cost of your cake.
